Sustainability-minded Alliance for Safety and Security of Food
A Comprehensive Collaboration Arrangement
between the Agriculture Welfare Party* and Happo-en
on March 2, 2018

Expectations for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games are rising slowly but steadily, at home and overseas, as we get news of winning medals in the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games almost every day.
On December 12, 2016, the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games published the standards for food purveyance, which is sustainability-minded, of agricultural, livestock, and marine products, for the food of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.
 

Based on those standards, agricultural products should be:
– farmed organically
– farmed by independently-minded people with disabilities
– from areas that use traditional farming methods, which are certificated by Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems, Japanese Nationally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems, other international organizations, and national governments.
 

Happo-en has been approaching food diversification since last year. We met Mr. Saeki, who develops natural cultivation through welfare activities, while we’re trying to step up our efforts toward allergies, Halal food, vegetarians and vegans, organic food, and etc.
Mr. Saeki promotes a support system for agriculture-welfare collaboration. He has a passion for restoring farms, which were closed because of a shortage of workers and a lack of heirs, and make them to where disabled people can work with natural cultivation.
Having disabled children made him decide to work on welfare projects, for the future of his own children.Happo-en came to believe we need their products for our dishes, when we visited their farms and learned about their passions, and ate their vegetables and fruits.
 

Happo-en is pleased to announce that we will sign a comprehensive collaboration arrangement with Mr. Saeki’s Agriculture Welfare Party on March 2, 2018. We will be happy to work with all the people who we met, and will contribute positively to the food of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2020, developing the wonderful taste of the products which grow under the natural sunshine and earth.

*The Agriculture Welfare Party is an organization that assists people with disabilities to live independently by teaching them about agriculture and giving them an opportunity to cultivate all-natural products.
