MUAN Japanese Tea House

The tea house "MUAN" stands dignifiedly beside the Japanese garden with its seasonal beauty.
You can enjoy matcha and sweets while strolling through the garden.
We offer two plans: 'Teicha', where anyone can use it without a reservation, and 'Otemae', a reservation-only plan where MUAN staff demonstrates tea preparation in front of you.

In 'Teicha’, we serve matcha prepared in backyard and serve it at the 'RYUREISEKI' seating, where you sit on chairs.
For the 'Otemae', you can choose between the 'RYUREISEKI(Chair room)’' seating with chairs or the 'HIROMA(Tatami room)' format where you sit on tatami mats.

Experience Japanese culture along with the changing seasons of Japan.

**About the Tea Room “Muan”**
The tearoom at Muan originated from a tearoom established by the prominent merchant Tanaka Heihachi, who thrived in the late Edo to early Meiji period. Businessman Kuhara Fusanosuke, the owner of the land where the Happo-en was located at the time, relocated the tearoom in its original form to this location.

A great tea enthusiast, Kuhara invited a tea master from Kyoto to reside here, expanded the original space with the current seated style, and cherished the tearoom while preserving its original charm.

The preferences and charm of the first owner, Tanaka Heihachi, and the subsequent owner, Kuhara Fusanosuke, are still evident in details like the hall’s ceiling and the table in the seated style.

Please savor a moment in the tearoom “Muan,” where you can feel the history passed down through generations.
